Cool Stuff Week of March 13th

Synthetic Meats: We are eating our way off to a slow death on this planet by over-eating and over-harvesting.  If you don’t believe me, check any major fishery around the world.  Fish production at the size and scale previously thought easy is now hard or non-existent.  The bottom line is that we are eating ourselves into a major worldwide catastrophe.   Maybe technology can save us.

Quote from Tony Robbins (restated in my terms): “Knowledge without action is worthless.  It is what you do every day that defines who you are.”  This quote has been running through my head and motivating me not to pretend I am somebody, but to live the life of the somebody I am.

Knott’s Berry Farm during the week:  The park was empty.  They have great roller coasters.  They don’t try to sell you on everything all the time (like Disneyland).  The roller coasters are not as big as they are at Six Flags Magic Mountain, but we had a great time.  We rode all the roller coasters we wanted without any lines.  Our favorite was The Xcelerator, and we stayed in the front seats and rode it all by ourselves 4 times in a row.  We got there when they open at 10am, and we had ridden everything we wanted and were exhausted by 1pm…. Perfect!

On Netflix / Amazon The People Vs. O.J. Simpson an American Crime Story : This is a very good series. It is a bit overly dramatic at times, but the show does a great job of portraying the mood in America and in Los Angeles in 1994.  Clearly, OJ did it, and it is still amazing that he got off.  But the movie and all the various personalities paint an inside look at how it all happened.  I thought the acting was very well done by the entire cast, but the two scene-stealers are John Travolta and Nathan Lane.

Best place for lunch in Cardiff/Encinitas:  Good On Ya Café on Highway 101.  The owner, Kristen Buchanan, is a former multi-time Olympian.  She is meticulous about her health and food choices, and it shows in the menu.  Organic, gluten free, some Vegan, non-GMO, etc. are all standard in most menu items, and it all tastes great.  If you go, you might see me, my wife or our kids there (we are there all the time), but no matter what, make sure to say hi to Kristen for me.  She and her staff are awesome!
